Recommended Peanut Free Peanut Butter

What’s the best substitute for peanut butter?

When we discovered our daughter has an anaphylactic allergy to peanuts, we got rid of anything peanut in our home. We’ve tried many different peanut free peanut butters and our favorite is SunButter.

TOP 3 PEANUT FREE PEANUT BUTTERS

  1. SunButter (excellent if you can have sunflower seeds)
  2. Artisana Cashew Butter or Almond Butter (great if you can have tree nuts)
  3. WOWBUTTER (good if you can have soy but no nuts)

All three brands produce their spreads in facilities without peanuts, so they’re all peanut-free. Remember to always read labels as things change over time.

SUNBUTTER: OUR TOP NUT FREE BUTTER

SunButter is a brand that produces sunflower seed spread without any of the top 8 allergens in their facility. Unless you’re allergic to sunflower seeds, this is our most recommended peanut butter alternative. Our entire family loves it, although we each have a different favorite. 😉

There are five different kinds of SunButter. If you want to see details of all the ingredients and options of where to buy them online, check out our honest SunButter Review.

WHAT ARE THE SUNBUTTER VARIETIES?

SunButter makes natural creamy, crunchy, organic with no added ingredients, no sugar, and one with preservatives to prevent oil separation.

We have not found the oil separation to be an issue, just stir when you open a new jar and it’s all good. The Organic seems to have the most separation, probably because there is nothing else in there except organic roasted sunflower seeds.

My favorite is the crunchy. The healthiest option is the organic without sugar.

CAN YOU BUY SUNBUTTER IN STORES?

SunButter seems to be showing up in some local stores. I’ve seen the Natural Creamy SunButter in our local Walmart. However, we’ve only found the crunchy SunButter and the versions without sugar online.

BEST PEANUT BUTTER SUBSTITUTES IF YOU’RE ALLERGIC TO SUNFLOWER SEEDS

If you can’t have sunflower seeds, then what peanut butter substitute should you try?

WOWBUTTER or ARTISANA NUT BUTTERS, which are peanut-free.

BEST PEANUT FREE NUT BUTTERS IF YOU CAN HAVE TREE NUTS

If you can have tree nuts, then Artisana Nut Butters are excellent. Artisana makes coconut and nut butters. They can be pricey, but the ingredients are clean and they are safe for kids with peanut allergies.

Our family agrees that the Cashew Butter is the best, with Almond Butter in second place. As always, food allergy moms and dads, READ THE INGREDIENTS because sometimes cashew butter is mixed in with outer nut butters (like the Walnut Butter) to give it a more creamy texture.

TOP PEANUT BUTTER SUBSTITUTE IF YOU CAN HAVE SOY

If you can have soy, then WOWBUTTER is another good option. The texture is very similar to standard peanut butter and it’s produced in a facility without peanuts or tree nuts.

The taste was a little off for me, but some people love it. WOWBUTTER comes in creamy or crunchy.

Just because you’re dealing with a peanut allergy, doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy cookies or the classic sandwich anymore. Finding the best peanut butter substitute for your family may take a little trial and error but thankfully, there are great options available.
