Looking for a natural sunscreen that’s not white? For years, I’ve wanted to avoid the chemicals in many common brands of sunscreen but cringed at the white tint from using mineral sunscreens. I’m so happy to share that I’ve found two natural screens that do not have any white tint at all.
The best natural sunscreens I’ve found that are not white are Earthley Sun Shield and Badger Clear Sunscreen Face Stick. Sun Shield is an oil-based sunscreen that does not use any zinc oxide. Badger Clear Sunscreen uses uncoated zinc, which is clear.
Why Choose a Natural Sunscreen?
Many sunscreens at the stores contain endocrine-disrupting chemicals, which some informed consumers are not comfortable with putting on their skin or their children’s skin.
We personally found fewer health problems and allergic reactions when we took these seven steps to clean up our home. Among those steps was cleaning up our personal care and beauty items, like sunscreen.

Most Mineral Sunscreen Leaves Skin White
For several years, we used ThinkSport Sunscreen. It works well and has a good rating on the EWG database. However, it is WHITE.
Even the Thinksport Everyday Tinted Face Cream has a whiteish tint to it. I used it, but I was always on the lookout for a truly not-white natural sunscreen that I could use on my face (and the kids’).
Thankfully, I’ve found two! Check out the ingredients, pros and cons, and bare-faced pictures in these non-white, natural sunscreen reviews below.
1. Earthley Sun Shield

I would consider Earthley’s Sun Shield a natural sunscreen alternative because it doesn’t use any of the typical ingredients found in store-bought sunscreen.
It doesn’t include Zinc Oxide, which is what gives most natural sunscreens their white tint.
As with all sunscreens, make sure you reapply if you’re spending hours in the sun!
EWG Skin Deep Score: Sun Shield is not in the EWG Database yet. However, virtually all Earthley products score 1, the best score. (See Earthley products on EWG)

- Zero white tint
- Easy to mix with your daily face moisturizer
- Safe for babies 6+ months
- Gluten-Free, Soy-Free, Corn-Free, Nut-Free, Vegan.

Earthley Sun Shield – Sunscreen That’s Not White

I mix Earthley Sun Shield with my daily face moisturizer, so it’s really easy to apply.
Below is a picture of me wearing Sun Shield mixed in with my daily face moisturizer. No makeup and no filter or touch-ups, so you can see how it really looks.😉 This was a very sunny day, so take into account that a little bit of the shine is from the sun.

You can see it makes my face a little shiny because it’s an oil-based sunscreen, but it’s gets better over time or it can easily be toned down with a little matte face powder. It’s definitely not white sunscreen though! 🥳
Ingredients:
- Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil
- Organic Avocado Oil
- Organic Raspberry Seed Oil
- Organic Grapeseed Oil
- Organic Mango Butter
- Organic Comfrey Leaf
- Organic Dandelion Flowers

2. Badger Clear Sunscreen Face Stick
Badger Clear Zinc Kids Sunscreen Stick is a natural mineral sunscreen. I was skeptical that something with Zinc Oxide could be clear, but it really is!
It has a slight purple tint when you first apply it, but that goes away with a tiny bit of rubbing in.
As with all sunscreens, make sure you reapply if you’re spending hours in the sun!
EWG Skin Deep Score: 1 (the best score) See details here.
Pros
- Clean, simple ingredients
- Not white
- Easy to wear under or over face moisturizer/make-up
- light Tangerine & Vanilla smells great (per myself and my kids!)
- Gluten-Free, non-GMO, hypoallergenic
Cons
- Slightly purple tint
- Small size
Badger Clear Sunscreen Stick – Sunscreen That’s Not White

I put a little of this on my face, and so far it’s provided great sun protection without any white tint.
Below is a picture of me wearing the Badger Clear Sunscreen Face Stick. Same as above, I’m not wearing any makeup and no filters were used to edit or touch-up the image.

You can see the Badger Face Stick is neither oily nor white. This stick is only convenient for covering a small part of your body. However, there’s a Badger Kids Clear Sport Sunscreen with Clear Zinc Oxide that would be worth checking out for a whole-body sunscreen.
